The Centre for Research on Women, Gender, Culture and Social Change, a part of EMSAH at UQ, is hosting a masterclass on “Transculturalism”, Thursday 18 November from 10-4 (followed by refreshments). Professor Sneja Gunew will be the main speaker and the day is designed mainly for postgraduates but others are also welcome. Sneja will give two presentations and there will be a session for postgraduates to present 10-minute papers on issues of cross- and trans-culturalism that have arisen in relation to their research. Those who would like to offer a short presentation in this session should contact Carole Ferrier.

Sneja Gunew (FRSC) has taught in England, Australia and Canada. She has published widely on multicultural, postcolonial and feminist critical theory and is currently Professor of English and Women’s Studies at the University of British Columbia, Canada. She is Director of the Centre for Research in Women’s Studies and Gender Relations. Her books include Framing Marginality: Multicultural Literary Studies and Haunted Nations: The Colonial Dimensions of Multiculturalisms. Her current work is in comparative multiculturalism and in diasporic literatures and their intersections with national and global cultural formations. She was one of six directors of the three-year Transculturalisms/MÈtissage project co-ordinated by the International Council for Canadian Studies.
