“Why are we buying the fake Windex when the real Windex is the only one that works?”
- David in cleaning zone
“Oh, I don’t know. I have to return some books to the library.”
- Ruth in response to husband George’s reluctant invitation to his annual fossil hunt
“I have a lot of sex and it’s really really gay.”
- Keith finally comes out at work
The HBO forum has some pretty amazing reading. How’s this for an angle on certain current subplots:
“I have a take on the Claire and Edie thing. Claire is not lesbian nor is she truly curious. What Claire has is a non-sexual crush. The thing about these kinds of crushes is that they are super confusing. The feeling of attraction borders sexual because it is so intense but it’s really just this deep admiration that you don’t ordinarily feel. You see all the things that you’d like to be in this other person and like Claire said, you feel more special when you’re around that person. It’s a strange kind of mirroring. You see the things that are really inside of yourself but you hadn’t recognized. I know I’ve been there, but I took the time to really think about my feelings and analyze what was going on because I knew I wasn’t gay or curious. I always thought of Claire as being the kind of person who would be more analytical about her feelings and I think that that is what bothers me about this story line. Claire is not acting in character and it does feel very art school cliche.”
Here’s hoping for some insights like this in tutes today…
