Another footnote. In my chapter I ended up writing a critique of this sort of appraisal, which tends to stop at the point of saying isn’t it great that blogs reflect how historically women have used knitting as a way of getting together to talk. What these comments consistently fail to do is explain why women’s activities have been forced to take place in the realm of the domestic, and how their talk has been dismissed as trivial compared with the seriousness of the (male-dominated) public sphere. I think the answers to these questions then answer the question ‘where are all the women bloggers’. But hey, read the chapter.
