UNC

Sitting in Larry Grossberg’s office at UNC where tomorrow I am supposed to give the talk I was supposed to write on my 15 1/2 hour flight from Hong Kong. I just went to buy a phone card to call Optus because my mobile phone isn’t working despite my Global Roaming being switched on (doesn’t the US count as ‘global’? Huh?). Apparently no one sells international phone cards on campus here. The newsagent used to. I might be able to get one at the city post office. So I’m not in Kansas anymore. Well, I’m actually closer to Kansas, but you know what I mean.
In case you didn’t know, I’ve taken off for a three week trip around the US. Stay tuned for lots of bad photography and in-flight movie ratings.

So apparently the US is one of only three countries in the world that uses ‘triband’ and that’s why my phone isn’t working. Do I believe the Optus guy? Do I complain furiously that I wasn’t told this before I left, when I advised them I would be in the US?? Hrmph.

but they have the World Series in baseball, played by such countries as Atlanta, Michigan, New York, and LA. Surely they are global
Hanging with Grossberg, haha. Ask him when a new book is coming. I’m bored.

Cliffy, apparently Larry’s new book has the working title “When Did Cultural Studies Get So Boring” - which is certainly a title I sympathise with right now - so you aren’t the only one. He has a newish book out called “Caught in the Crossfire”. And the new Keywords is out here in the US, but I haven’t seen it in Oz.
Glen - cummerband?
Oh I kill me.
