Comments problems
Posted on | November 16, 2005 | 7 Comments
Just a note to say a lot of readers seem to be getting an error message when they post comments lately, even though from my side they are all coming through to the blog without a problem. I’ve been deleting a lot of the repeated ones but not sure what to do about the error thing. For the time being can I suggest people hesitate a moment longer before reposting… and wordpress geeks: help!

I’m just posting a test message to capture the error message I see. We might be able to sort this out from that.

OK, it’s almost certainly your anti-spam plugin, “spam-karma”. Disable that for a while or try a newer version of the plugin. If things are still going weird, switch your blog to Textpattern.

It wouldn’t be that refresh problem, would it? (Sometimes on Blogger you have to manually refresh a page before you see a comment…)
(This comment is partly a test.)

Have deactivated sparm karma. Tried a new version but even I got weird feedback – that wasn’t happening before. Maybe I need a new version of WP. I’ll see how much spam I get.
Thanks so much for the help guys.

i don’t use the plugin, just have moderation turned on, grit my teeth and tell myself that morning rituals, even spam-deleting rituals, are good.

Mel – we’ve found Akismet an excellent spam plugin – had some problems with spam-karma as well. The great thing about Akismet is that it’s an intelligent programme and learns from highlighting comments as spam and not spam and also operates across other WP blogs with it installed in order to share info about what’s spam.
If you email Rob Corr – robert (at) corr (dot) net (dot) au – I’m sure he’d be glad to help.
