Brisbane Storm

I have been left home alone for two days which may mean that I emerge from deadline hell some time this century. So far this has led me to eat too many stawberries and participate in a photo taking frenzy during the mother of all storms this afternoon. This is what it looked like from my place (it’s only a tiny moofie, just to see if I can impress Jean when she gets back from Sydney). If you can make out the high rises in the distance at the start (behind the massive palm tree), try to imagine that two window cleaners were stuck hanging from the biggest tower in the CBD while all this blowing, thunder and lightning was going on. There are more pictures at flickr, tracing the storm over about 40 minutes. It was frightening and beautiful to see how quickly nature restored its equilibrium. If only I as a human could learn to purge and refresh so efficiently.

Southeast Queensland has been getting some cracker storms in recent weeks, and there’s been some good footage of them online as well. I spent the last weekend over on Moreton Island, across the bay from Brisbane, and we got a great one just …
