Hi
Just found your site and as a ‘baby boomer’ (whatever that is) I’m intrigued by this ongoing anti-boomer stance you and others of the post-boomer generation seem to have. I mean, like you, none of us asked to be born so to blame us for being baby boomers is really kinda ridiculous. And to suggest that the current godawful state of politics in Oz is a ‘baby boomer’ phenomenon is also unfair, as well as a rather shallow analysis of what’s going on. Surely its a result of socio-economic factors rather than generational ones - its seems very superficial to attack ‘baby boomers’ as the cause of your disaffection with the state of OZ without actually looking at why ‘baby boomers’ work long hours and consume (and it is just not the case that the whole of the generation can be categorised in this way). The roots of today’s world lie, as always, in the past and to suggest that the problem is simply with one generation does a disservice to both yourself and your own generation. Please lets have a little more clarity and analysis and stop dissing the ‘baby boomers’ simply because they are ‘baby boomers’.
Yours
Andrew

Thanks for the Christmas cheer, Andrew. Having just re-read the only post I’ve written specifically about the issues you’re referring to, I can’t help but think that it shares most of your views. The point of talking here about the chapter I was invited to write was to highlight some of the ways the publishing and media industries frame these issues for all of us.
