Extreme conference week
Posted on | September 29, 2006 | 3 Comments
I’ve been at three conferences this week, and we’re just over half way through AoIR now. I’ve met some cool new people and reconnected with some old friends from interstate and overseas, tho organising duties, change of season sleeping patterns and tendonitis are keeping me from seeing many papers. Yes, tendonitis: I’ve been ordered off the computer this past fortnight, which explains the lack of blog action. The irony of this – as I study the forms of flexible labour made possible by new media technology – will be the topic of another post, not to mention a number of amusing anecdotes in my next book.
The Uses of Blogs launch happened this afternoon, followed by our panel which was packed, somewhat dauntingly. Thanks to Jean for getting us motivated. If you’ve come here for the first time to read more of the blogs I mentioned, check the blogroll and those on the blogs mentioned in this post where I began thinking about the paper.
Conference quotations/notes to self:
“It needs to be rubricised for a Duke-style publication.”
“The thing that defines our generation is talking about what defines our generation.”
“Thank you for mentioning history in a way that was somewhere between Elizabethan and The Future.”
Off to the conference dinner for more.
PS/Edit: Laura, expect a bounce in visits to your blog too! “My Day! Starring Cat! + Many Foods!” was a big hit.
