Cultural capital

Actually, I won’t be going home to an empty house much longer. I am getting a new flatmate for Easter! The signs are promising:

  1. mmm, book porn. yum.

  2. I find their lack of science fiction disturbing.

(You know, it was a badly-written line in the original, but Darth Vader’s delivery always kicked arse)

  3. There is Octavia Butler on top of another pile! There are many piles!!

  4. it’s really quite scary how similar this pile is to the piled-up bookcase in my bedroom…I love the Jesus Man, somewhat perversely.

  5. Yes - there are going to be two copies of lots of things here as well! No problems if we break up!!

I thought it was a nice snapshot of recently tertiary educated Aussie arts students actually.

But the Jesus Man… surely the most depressing novel? Although I thought that about Dead Europe too, hence haven’t finished it yet.

  6. […] Mel’s post has been in my thoughts over the last couple of days as I often write about romance themed stuff on my blog (like actually write it and write about it). I had to set up a myspace because the randoms I was hooking up with when out and about would exchange blog urls with me during txt flirtations and have no f’ckin idea what i was talking about on my blog. This did not help any cause, and it is not without some irony that Mel’s next post on her blog immediately after the above linked post is cultural capital!!! […]

  7. Octavia Butler? OK, sorry, carry on.

  8. i like depressing novels. Not enough opportunity to cultivate my propensity for deep melancholia where i work!

  9. But Jean, you work at QUT?!
