Details for MACS on Friday

Monthly MACS is a cross-institutional network of academics, early career researchers, postgraduate students, postdocs, RAs and sessional staff working in Media and Cultural Studies across Brisbane. We meet regularly during semester to discuss issues which relate to these roles, debate wider trends in the field and have a few drinks afterwards. You can read more about past MACS events here.

Monthly MACS reconvenes on Friday with another in our regular series of events showcasing reports from recent conferences: “What I did in my holidays”. The aim of these events is to keep abreast of current debates in media and cultural studies as well as to catch up with colleagues working around Brisbane.

Speakers who will lead the discussion include:

*Jean Burgess (QUT) who will discuss the Cultural Studies Now conference at the University of East London
*Christina Spurgeon (QUT) who will speak about the Mobile Media conference at the University of Sydney and ANZCA in Melbourne
*Jinna Tay (UQ) who will report on the Ubiquitous Media conference in Tokyo, Japan
*Frances Bonner (UQ) who will comment on the In the Pipeline Symposium in Sydney
*Rachel Cobcroft (QUT) who recently attended the Oxford Internet Institute Summer Doctoral Program

We also invite others who have attended these or other conferences to come along and join the conversation.

When: 2.30- 3.45pm, Friday August 17

Where: CCCS Seminar Room, Level 4, Forgan Smith Tower, St Lucia Campus, University of Queensland, followed by drinks at the UQ staff club.

As this is the first MACS in a while, please pass this on to any new postgrads or appointments working in media and cultural studies in Brisbane. Suggestions for future topics are always welcome.
